An arc-welding generator's secondary circuit, which controls the electrodes that emit the welding current, is powered by a welding cable. Cables made from flexible copper wire are encased in a cover that is flame-retardant, heat-resistant, oil-resistant, and abrasion-proof. The strength and durability of welding cable vary according to its grade. A copper wiring is usually stranded for maximum flexibility. Welding wire may be covered with Neoprene or EPDM rubber, short for ethylene propylene diene rubber M-class.
